New DISSEM-INN briefing note on the response of the DeSIRA projects to the challenges of the NAIS in Senegal

This note describes how the approach adopted by the DeSIRA projects operating in Senegal is able to respond to the systemic challenges of the NAIS identified in the context of the analysis conducted by the TAP-AIS project.

The first DISSEM-INN regional workshop helped to characterise the innovation approach common to these projects – known as DeSI (Development Smart Innovation) – according to principles they share to obtain impact, namely: a multi-stakeholder, co-construction and multi-dimensional approach. This analysis underpinned the organisation of a national workshop in Senegal, the subject of the briefing note, which was aimed at identifying avenues for scaling this DeSI innovation approach at the national level. The perspective chosen was to study the contribution of the DeSIRA projects operating in Senegal to the National Agricultural Innovation System (NAIS)¹. This note thus shows how the implementation of this DeSI approach by the DeSIRA projects operating in Senegal addresses the systemic challenges of the NAIS in Senegal

¹ The NAIS can be defined as all of the stakeholders involved in agricultural innovation at the national level, divided into three sub-systems depending on whether they participate in agricultural production, knowledge production or support services. An effective NAIS implies the existence of an institutional and policy framework that guides the articulation between these three sub-systems.
